在Informix 11.7版本之前，必须使用Informix用户执行ontape。从Informix 11.7版本开始，可以使用其他的用户安装Informix产品，这个安装的用户自动变成DBSA，它可以执行ontape命令。

通过执行ontape -s来完成备份的工作。如下所示，服务器将启动一个会话，需要你提供备份的级别，下一步将提示你mount磁带或者创建好文件，然后按Enter键；如果服务器不能打开特定的设备，将显示另外的信息，提示你在按Enter键之前设备必须是在线的。

$ ontape -s
